Founded in 1986, the Eighteenth-Century Ireland Society / Cumann éire san Ochtú Céad Déag aims to supports the study of all aspects of the social, economic, political, artistic, architectural, cultural and linguistic experience of Ireland in the period 1690-1800, and is now the main national forum for debate on eighteenth-century issues. Membership of the Society is open to all. The Society is a constituent society of the International Society for Eighteenth-Century Studies (ISECS), and its main activities are the publication of an annual journal, Eighteenth-Century Ireland / Iris an dá chultúr, and the organisation of an Annual Conference, which has been variously held in Dublin, Belfast, Cork, Galway, Limerick and in a number of regional centres since the Society's inauguration. In 1999, ECIS had the honour of hosting the Tenth International Congress on the Enlightenment at University College, Dublin, under the direction of Professor Andrew Carpenter. The Society currently has over 150 individual members, largely attached to Universities in the Republic of Ireland and in Northern Ireland, although we also have a significant overseas membership, particularly in the United Kingdom and the United States. Eighteenth-Century Ireland / Iris an dá chultúr is also received by many major libraries, booksellers, museums, archives, universities and other educational institutions throughout the world. Further information is available at: http://www.mic.ul.ie/ecis/Welcome.htm. Eighteenth-Century Ireland / Iris an dá chultúr is published by the Society annually.
